Our OpenAI Platform integration imports the API usage of your OpenAI organization (platform.openai.com): the requests made with your organization's API keys, per user or API key and per model.
This usage is exposed on Keypup as the AI Usage dataset, and can be reported next to your pull request and issue metrics, or compared with GitHub Copilot, Claude and other AI tools.
Platform is API usage, not ChatGPT usage. OpenAI Platform only sees requests made with your organization's OpenAI API keys. What your team does in ChatGPT, or in Codex while signed in with a ChatGPT account, never appears there.
OpenAI Platform or OpenAI Codex Enterprise?
Keypup connects to OpenAI through two separate integrations, because OpenAI reports API usage and ChatGPT usage through two different products.
Your developers, scripts or tools call the OpenAI API with API keys, including Codex run with an API key - connect OpenAI Platform.
Your developers use Codex signed in with a ChatGPT Enterprise or Edu account - connect OpenAI Codex Enterprise.
Both - connect both. They report different activity, so nothing is counted twice.
Your team is on ChatGPT Business - only OpenAI Platform is available. OpenAI does not offer Codex usage analytics on the Business plan, so the Codex usage included in your ChatGPT seats cannot be reported in Keypup.
Your developers use personal ChatGPT accounts (Free, Go, Plus or Pro) - that usage cannot be reported. Only API key usage, through OpenAI Platform, can be.
The same Codex command line counts in OpenAI Codex Enterprise when signed in with a ChatGPT Enterprise or Edu account, and in OpenAI Platform when run with an API key.
Prerequisites
An OpenAI API organization on platform.openai.com, on any billing tier, and its owner to create an Admin API key. Your ChatGPT plan, if any, makes no difference.
How to connect OpenAI Platform
Create an Admin API key in your OpenAI organization settings. See OpenAI Platform - Create an Admin API key to connect to Keypup.
In Keypup, go to Settings > App management, click Connect on OpenAI Platform and paste the key.
Keypup creates one project per OpenAI organization. Enable it to start the import.
What data do we collect?
The text generation requests billed to your organization through its API keys, per day, per model and per user. Requests made with a service account or project key, which have no user, are reported against the API key instead.
number of requests;
input, cached input and output tokens.
Other API usage, such as embeddings, images and audio, is not imported. OpenAI attributes no usage to a repository, so the repository and language fields of the AI Usage dataset stay empty. For the full field coverage, see AI Usage provider coverage.
How often do we refresh data?
Keypup reads OpenAI's daily usage reports every 6 hours, as OpenAI does not support webhooks. The first import retrieves up to one year of history. To pick up late corrections from OpenAI, the last 35 days are read again on every refresh.
Troubleshooting
The key is rejected when connecting. Check that it is an Admin API key, starting with sk-admin-, and not a project API key: OpenAI only exposes usage reporting to Admin keys.
Codex usage is missing. Codex sessions signed in with a ChatGPT account are not API usage. Connect OpenAI Codex Enterprise if your workspace is on ChatGPT Enterprise or Edu.
The integration disconnected. The Admin key was deleted. Create a new one and reconnect OpenAI Platform.
