Field ID: <code>model_vendor</code>

Description: The vendor of the model (e.g. <code>anthropic</code>, <code>openai</code>). Note that this is the maker of the model, which may differ from the AI tool reporting the usage.

Transformation logic: Calculated from the normalised model reference.

The <code>Model vendor</code> field separates who makes the model from who sells the tool. A team on GitHub Copilot may be consuming mostly Anthropic models, and only this field shows it.

Vendor concentration: Group by vendor with <code>SUM(output_tokens)</code> to see how dependent the team is on a single model maker.

Negotiation and planning: Vendor mix is the figure that matters when evaluating a direct contract with a model provider rather than buying through a tool.

Not the reporting tool: The tool that produced the record is <code>project_source</code>, not this field. Copilot usage on Anthropic models has vendor <code>anthropic</code>.
